History
James R. Tweedy was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1965 and graduated from Puxico High School in 1983. He attended the University of Missouri for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, earning a B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1987 and a J.D. in 1989. Upon graduation, Mr. Tweedy returned to southeast Missouri and began his legal career at Oliver, Oliver, Waltz & Cook, P.C., a firm that handled primarily insurance defense matters. He was passed the Missouri and Illinois bar examinations in 1990 and was licensed to practice in each state that year. After approximately four years with the firm, Mr. Tweedy left the firm and opened Tweedy Law Office in his native Stoddard County, Missouri.

Recognitions
On May 2, 2008, Governor Matt Blunt selected Mr. Tweedy to served as one of six comissioners for the Missouri Ethics Commission. Mr. Tweedy's appointment was confirmed by the Missouri Senate and his term will expire on March 15, 2012.
Awards
Mr. Tweedy is a member of The Missouri Bar, and has previously served as the district representative to the Young Lawyers Section Council of The Missouri Bar. He has served as President of the Stoddard County Bar Association and as Chairman of Southeast Missouri Legal Services, Inc., Center for Family Resources, Inc. He has served as treasurer of the Stoddard County Children's Home, Inc., for the past six years.
